chess
Chess Team:
For those chess
players who wish to compete in tournament play, chess team is place to be! The playing season begins late January/early
February and lasts 7 to 8 weeks, depending on the number of teams in our
division, which varies annually. Practices begin in November, and, as with any
competitive sport, team members are expected to demonstrate commitment to their
team by attending all practices, playing at least the minimum number of games
each week, and attending all meets to support fellow team members.
The top five boards for each competitive match will be
determined by competitive play against teammates, adherence to team rules
regarding attendance and mandatory number of weekly games played, as well as
other important considerations such as experience and opponent matches. A spot
on the top 5 boards is earned, not guaranteed, and should encourage first-time
players to join the team.
Chess Club:
For those chess players who want to play recreational (not
competitive) chess, chess club is for you. Chess club meets weekly in A203, and
anyone – regardless of ability level – is welcome to play. Chess club is also a
great place to learn chess from other student players. All interested players
are invited to join in the friendly, but often spirited, play that happens
between club members.

the daily bulletin beginning in November for the announcement regarding the
beginning of the 2008-2009 season.
