I teach the following courses:

Western Civilization (10th grade)

This course will cover the history of the world and the United States from the 16th through the 19th centuries. Topics include exploration and discovery of the Americas, the expansion of the power of kings, the commercial revolution and evolution of modern capitalism, the founding and development of colonies in North America, the Enlightenment and the revolutions of the 18th and 19th centuries (including the American, French, and Nationalist Revolutions), the industrial revolution, the America Civil War, and the 19th century European and world developments. This course will include map work and other major and minor projects.

United States Government (11th and 12th grade)

This one trimester course will examine the history, workings, and intricacies of the U.S. government. The concepts, structures, and operations that will be examined include: the U.S. Constitution, separation of powers, significant U.S. Supreme Court cases, divisions between federal and state governments, political parties, civil and political rights, and the distinctions between the three branches of government. Emphasis will be placed on a practical understanding of how the government works and its effects on the citizenry.
