The objective of this course is to develop in students fundamental
analytic skills needed in calculus and advanced math courses. Modeling and
understanding basic functions from multiple perspectives – numerical, algebraic
and graphical – leads to a deeper and more connected understanding of the
fundamental concepts of algebra, trigonometry (including analytic trigonometry)
and analytic geometry. In addition, students are exposed to important ideas of
calculus in the process. Finally, the importance of real-world applications and
modeling is emphasized for all basic functions.
It is my sincere hope that this class will not only
challenge students academically, but will also challenge them to examine and
practice the values/virtues that are the heart of a Lasallian School, as we
daily reflect on Lasallian themes.
